Hi, I do not know about surf rentals but we stayed at an affordable hostel in Montanita for about 25 dollars a day with breakfast included... See my page on Montanita... An unforgettable place... I envy you...

I do envy you! Can't wait to go back... We rented a cottage, one room with two full beds... There was hot water in a complete bathroom, (which I found surprising after staying in many hostels at the coast with just cold water!) Here is the link:
http://www.montanita.com/guadua/ingles.html Next door to this complex, there is a more affordable place with similar arrangements call Casa Vito. The owner is a very well known character in town... if you mention his name, anybody will point you in the right direction... Have a great time! I know you will...
