| Kathmandu | Going from Kathmandu to Delhi Posted: Sun September 23, 2007 10:44 PM UTC
Hello,
I will be travelling in Tibet and Nepal around until around 10th Nov. My flight back to Amsterdam leave from Delhi but all the flight from Kathmandu to Delhi seems to be fully booked and it is very difficult to make contact with the local airlnes in Nepal and Delhi. I am getting concern about how i am going to go to Delhi I have read that by road is not so safe. Does anybody know if it is easy to find means to do that trip either by local airline or by road? Do you know of any local airlines agency i can contact. Your feedback would be highly appreciated. Thanks and enjoy your travel Cheers. Riverdil |

Kathmandu Guest house may help you to find the tickets to Delhi from Kathmandu as one of the friend said.
You may find Railway ticket from Kathmandu for Gorakhpur to Delhi. and other Deluxe Buses are also available in Kathmandu - Delhi Direct. You can choose any option.

Mmmm Not so sure about Gopal’s friend and the railway ticket – No Railways in Nepal ;-)
Personally if you can’t find a flight on the net, and I assume that you have tried all the airlines flying this route ? Then you could try my old friend Nirmal at Himalayan Magic Adventures, I have used this same agent every time I go to Nepal now for the last 13 years and he hasn’t let me down yet !! Details on my Nepal page under Transport Hope that helps Happy Flying Rob

Alternatively, you may fly from Kathmandu to Kolkata (in India) and take a domestic flight from Kolkata to Delhi. There are numerous flight from Kolkata to Delhi every day.
I dont think there is any problem in taking the road/rail route from Kathmandu to Delhi but offcourse, this should be the last resort. For the road/rail route , take a bus from Kathmandu to Sonauli (Nepal India border post). Cross over to India, take a local bus to Gorakhpur (1-2 hrs). From Gorakhpur, there are numerous trains to Delhi. Better book the train ticket (from Gorakhpur to Delhi)in advance through internet (www.indianrail.gov.in or www.irctc.co.in)to avoid embarassment at 11th hour.

Hi,
I visited Nepla last August and also departed back to Portugal from Delhi airport. Travelling to Delhi was not very easy because we were not aware of some risks. If you don't mind I'll chare some incidents with you: we were a group of 5 leaving through Bairawaha (Nepal)/Sunauli (India) border. We bought bus tickets from there to Varanasi where we wanted to stay for a day or two. When we got to the border we were (mis)informed that due to the monsoon a bridge had fallen and we had to choose another way to get to India (Gorakhpur). We were convinced to hire a jeep "big enough for 5 adults plus luggage"; when we got to the hired car it was big enough, yes, but we had the company of 7 more travelleres!! Yes, we were 12 people inside the jeep, plus a 13th going on the top of the car watching for our bags! Several hours later we got to Varanasi, not in the best shape as you can imagine. From Gorakkhpur to Varanasi we had bought (still on the border) train tickets, cabins with bed an AC. When we got to the train it was not exactly what we had paid for, our places were the worst nightmare you can think of! And we only knew the depparture time, no one could guess when the train would get to it's destination!! From Varanasi, where we stayed 2 nights we left to Agra, again by train. This time we bought ourselves the tickets at the train station. No more unpleasant surprises, we expected... But (surprise..) when we got to the station the train was 2 hours late, isntead of leaving at 6.00 it would leave at 8.00...10 mins before 8.00 o'clock we were informed that we had to wait another half an hou..and then agan, another half an hour ..and so on untill it finnaly arrived, 5 hours late! The last trip of our jorney was from Jaipur to Delhi and we decided to take a bus. People told us it always leaves on time. But (surprise...), buses in India only move when they are full...so it took us 7 hours to make 256 Kms between the two places... What I mean is it's not difficult to buy a train ticket from Nepal to India. And it is a (almost) safe trip if you choose the best seets (cabins with bed and AC) but always lock your luggage to something not easyly removable... And because exchedules are unpredictable, you should travell to Delhi with time enough to avoid loosing your plane. Allways check the tickets you bought...and everything will go well. I would keep trying to fly from Kathmandu... Have a nice trip JoseMonteiro
