I am planning a trip to iTALY SOON. i WILL FLY TO cATINA FOR A FEW DAYS AND THEN WISH TO FIND INEPENSIVE TRANSPORTATION TO gERACI SICILO AND POSSIBLY SEEK TO MEET ANY RESIDENT FAMILY MEMBERS.

Buongiorno,
You trip to Sicily sounds interesting.
Firstly, Geraci Siculo is in the Madonie Mountains, about 37 kms south of Castelbuono. There is no direct public transport to this village. You can, however, take a bus from Castelbuono but they are not very frequent. You can reach Castelbuono by train from Catania with one or two stops depending upon which service you use.
Check out: orario.trenitalia.com/b2c/TimeTable? - just type in Catania and Castelbuono for train times. The journey takes between 4.5 and 5 hours. I cannot give you any info about the bus service from Castelbuono to Geraci Siculo, but be assured, there is a service.

There is no public transport from Catania to Mount Etna, but you can take guided tours.
Check out: www.volcanoetna.com/en/travel-guide/faq-etna-excursion.html
For this trip, I would personally rent a car for the day and drive to Etna.
