| Vancouver Island | winter Fishing Posted: Sun September 23, 2007 02:26 AM UTC
Hi Everyone
We are planning a winter trip to Vancouver Island and we were just wondering what the fishing is like at this time of the year. Any help on this topic and weather and accommodation at this time of year would be greatly appreciated. we were at Port Alberni late Sept early Oct 2003 and just love this place. The whole island actually. You are very lucky to live in a place like this. Thanks. Mark and Karen NZ |

Hi. Thanks for your comments about Port Alberni.........much appreciated. I'm afraid I am not a fisherman but I believe there is fishing in our Barkley Sound all year round. I think stream fishing would be mighty cold. I hope you get better information from someone who really knows.

In winter the only specie on offer is Steelhead (ocean run rainbows) in rivers like the Stamp/Somass or Cowichan-very very different from ocean fishing and not everyone's cuppa-very weather dependent.
While there are Salmon to be caught in the Ocean rough cold weather means most guides take their boats out of the water. Try http://www.fishmyster.com/ for a reliable guide.
