Kev and I are due to get married at the Eden Resort and Spa in Sri Lanka next August. I am a little concerned as I have read mixed reviews both about Berewala and the hotel. Can anyone give me some information on thier wedding at the Eden? I really wanted to have the wedding on the beach but most reviews state the wedding takes place in the gardens of the hotel as the beach is full of beach boys pestering tourists, is this really the case?

yes, as a regular to sri lanka, most all weddings do take place in the hotel grounds, with sri lankan drummers and dancers and an elephant all done up which you will get a ride on and the hotel will organise a special meal in the evening for you and your relatives. you will get hassle from the beach boys, even when you just leave the hotel on a day and walk out on the beach, but just give them a firm no is usually safice.

The hotel has a decent reputation and will do a decent job of the formalities and don't worry they do a lot of weddings throughout the year, in terms of beach boys you will not be bothered within the hotel premises or the immediate vicinity but if they try a firm NO would work

Thanks for your advice, the wedding is all booked for 28th August next year, 7 nights in Sri Lanka and 7 nights in the Herathera Island resort in the Maldives, we cant wait!

The hotel have said they can organise the ceremony on the beach however after the advice I have had on these forums we are considering sticking to the gardens. I really hope the hotel organise everything well, Im stressing about it already!

just to add to all the replies, the eden and its related hotels were taken over by the biggest conglomorate, namely John Keells(they have hotels in Sri Lanka and Maldives too) in Sri Lanka and by August next year the hotel would be better than now too.....
