| Riomaggiore | train and hiking trail advice Posted: Sat September 22, 2007 05:32 AM UTC
I am planning to take the rail from florence to Riomaggiore. Is it possible to but the CT card in Riomaggiore or do i have to buy it at La Spezia? I am going to hike from Riomaggiore to Monterrosso then from Monarola take a boat to Vernazza. Shouls i get the CT card? Does it cover what i need to do. And from Vernazza, i will be taking a rail to Monterosso. And from Monterosso back to Florence. I will be doing a day trip taking the 7.51am train to Riomaggiore. Since i am just going to hike the "Via dell'Amore" trail - recommended by rick steves at Riomaggiore and do the "Manarola Vineyard Walk" ..do i need the CT card? I heard the the CT card covers train rides and trail..and am wondering if i should go with the card or just purchase the one-stop train tickets? Please advise..thanks
p.s. i am going to CT in October |

this is quite complicated
but i do know the via d'amore trail is a very small part of the whole thing - it is the easiest part of the trail parents with strollers were doing the via d'amore track from then on it gets quite tough and hard my husband packed up at Corniglia and my daughter went back the next day to do the walk (not the via da'more) from Monterossa to Vernazza - and she is young and fit and just made it

btw i should point out this is Italy and it will be fairly chaotic and the left hand won't know what the right hand is doing
but the sums involved are fairly small - so no big deal i know when we arrived at Corniglia there was a sign at the bus stop saying what times the bus went - but the bus was actually going whenever a few people turned up it was driven by a guy with wild untamed hair - and he was into his job - getting people up the hill to Corniglia we just shrugged and let the time table go to hell and got on the bus

you will get the CT card, because it is necessary to get into the trails. It's up to about 6 euro now. It will cover the trains, yes you can purchase it in Riomaggiore, right where you enter the walking path.
True, the Riomaggiore - Manorola stretch is a breeze. Consider the next one as well on to Cornigila, not bad. We've walked these first 2 (starting from south) with 2 small kids and it was fine. See my first transportation tip- click the picture to show each walk and relative difficulty. http://members.virtualtourist.com/m/b214e/38/9/ Could be great in Oct. with the crowds thinning out

There are now two different CT cards - one is just the trails and one is the trails and train. You will have to buy a separate ticket for the boat.
