| Taormina | Taormina in January / February Posted: Thu September 20, 2007 05:31 AM UTC
Hi everyone
I am going to Taormina end December for a month. What are the temperatures like - I am from a coastal sub-tropical area and am quite nervous about cold weather. What clothing would I wear? I will be on a farm but will go to town regularly. Help - I am not a seasoned traveller. Irene. |

Winter is never too cold in Sicily. Bring some sweaters, jumpers and a jacket.. December and January are the coldest months.

Thanks for the reply!
- what about shoes; does it snow there? (we never have snow and our lowest temperature is +4deg C). I will be looking after two big dogs who will naturally want to go walking and I would hate to have frostbite.

well I live far from Taormina but since it is high from sea level I guess it may snow during winter so you have better bring with you at least 2 different kinds of shoes.. for example sneakers and some boots or Dr Martin's. I think that's enough for Sicily :-)))
Remember you are going in a place where the weather is almost always pleasant!

Then again, Taormina has a micro climate all on its own because of its proximity to Etna with its almost sub-tropical slopes (with lemons the size of rugby balls) and snowy peak. I would guard myself and bring a warm sweater and socks at least. I was in Taormina in May and it rained for a whole day and was quite cool whilst it was much better weather in the south of Sicily. It really is its own little world around that volcano - fantastic part of the world though! :) Enjoy!

Hi everyone
Thanks for the replies & good wishes! - quite scary: snow? Don't know if I should rather look for summertime (we also have hot, humid summers). I am from Durban on the east coast of South Africa.
