| Krabi | Railay Beach West/Railay Beach Resort Posted: Wed September 19, 2007 11:28 PM UTC
Has anyone stayed at the Railay Beach Resort and Spa on Railay Beach West? Any thoughts or experience?
We will be arriving November 23 and will be there until November 28. We're thinking of doing: Phuket Day Trip: November 24 Phi Phi Day Trip: November 25 And just check out the local area in Railay on November 26 and 27. Any MUST to-do things while in Railay/Krabi area? Any help will be greatly appreciated. Thank you. |

I wouldn't bother trying to get to Phuket from Krabi or even Railey Beach. To me, Phuket is one large island with tons of tourists and really not worth the effort given the short amount of time you've got.Visiting Phi Phi for a day or two might be nice but you're already staying at a pretty nice destination, although I think the Railay Resort is pretty large. Better just to hang in the area, go for walks or hikes, some exploring in the vicinity (Ao Nang), some snorkelling or diving trips, etc.

Just found out that there's really no way to have a day trip to Phuket because of the ferry schedule.
Will def do Phi Phi... Thanks for your help.

actual it a less than 180km drive away from phuket....u should be able to reach in over 2 hrs.
but it is too commercialised, if you are looking for a place to relax far from the madding crowd then krabi maybe a better place. heard that railay n ao nang beach are more activities n human traffic than those alittle further north like Nopparat Thara n Klong Maung beaches. there you expect quiet more relaxing. you can always come down for the nite life, or shop for things when needed. i'm going this sunday... checking out the nakamanda resort in klong maung, attractive rates than those around ao nang or railay

I agree with both coments above.
Avoid Puket, very touristy.

hi marco, just know that only way to railay is by boat, so better to explore around railay or short trip over to ao nang or day trip to ko phi phi.
my 3 days 2 nites trip is quite tight schedule, as we arrived in krabi airport at 7pm 1st day. 1 hr drive to resort, left only time for late nite dinner cum supper..around 10pm. so never really check out alot of places like aonang, buddha temple on hiil top (1247steps?), hot spring waterfall, kayak cave exploring, but day 2, we managed to squeeze in some golfing (2 hrs drive to thai meung golf resort) for some of us, town sightseeing / shopping for others, and relax & spa / massage in the evening. day 3 was spent islands hopping with private rented speed boat to suurrouding ko... n ko phi phi, then get back 3pm to check out for last minute shopping n dinner at TESCO nearby airport (10mins drive), to catch flight at 7.20pm back to home. hope info of help dave

I stayed at Railay Bay Resort and Spa not sure if that is the one you were asking about. below is taken from a review about it. I have given this hotel an average rating but I would go back there again! Railay beach is lovely and just eating breakfast by the beach looking at the lovely sea and those limestone towers would make the trip worthwhile. I had booked one of their superior bungalows but it was anything but superior, badly in need of redecoration, ripped sofa, stained bedhead etc. We complained and got upgraded to one of the rooms in the blocks and that was lovely........all wood and marble.............fresh flowers scattered on the bed each day. Only ate breakfast there, there were better places to eat lunch/dinner but this hotel has a lovely setting and on the right side of Railay apart from Phra Nang but we could not afford to stay at the Rayavedee. Give it a go but go for the rooms not the bungalows.
