We're a Belgian married couple (68 & 64 y. old) and we'll stay in Montevideo from November 21th 2007 till February 16th 2008. From Montevideo, we plan to make some trips in Uruguay and also visit Argentina, maybe Brasil.
Two questions: could you please give us some tips about renting a car, e.g. is it more interesting to rent it for a longer period, are there local renting agencies that offer interesting rates?
Second question: is it possible to meet interesting people in Montevideo who could asssist us in spending these nearly 3 months in an interesting way?

Yours it's a nice story. I'll try to answer the questions:
1) There are a lot of local renting agencies where I'm sure you'll find special prices for long periods. Just google "rent a car uruguay" and many will appear.

2) That's a difficult one. The only things that comes to my mind is joining a club or something like that. Anyway, you'll find a lot of friendly people eager to help on your way.
