Hunting question Posted: Wed September 19, 2007 04:12 PM UTC
Hi,
I wonder if I could ask a quick question. Im from Great Britain and am planning to visit New England in late October. The only thing that concerns me is wether we would see any hunting going on – I know this all sounds a bit soft (and Im not questioning anybodys beliefs or anything like that) – but my girlfriend is a little queasy at the prospect of seeing animals being shot and doesn’t really want to go if that’s the
Kind of thing we would see.

It is very unlikely you will see any hunting. Do you often see fox hunts in Great Britain?

RBCal - Used to see lots of fox hunts in certain parts of the countryside - very unusual now though as fox hunting with dogs was banned in Britain a couple of years ago.

I doubt you'll see any hunting, unless you intend to be out walking through the woods in an unpopulated area. Hunting seasons vary depending on the game that is being sought and the location you're in. Check with the State(s) in New England that you're traveling to in order to find out more about their individual hunting seasons. Again, I would really think it unlikely that you'd see anyone out hunting as it's generally done very early morning and many people do this on private property. Are you planning to camp? Hike in the woods? If not, then at most, you may see a deer tied to the roof of a car.

It is highly unlikely you would actually see anyone hunting. Even if you go to state parks you are not going to see hunting there. There is so very much to see and enjoy it would be a shame to miss on the rare chance you may see a deer on a truck.
I have included some very general October (past season) hunting info for you.
New Hampshire
Oct. 15 - Oct. 19 Fall turkey/shotgun (in certain areas only)
Oct. 1 - Dec. 31 Pheasant
Oct. 20- Oct. 28 Moose (by permit only)
Oct. 27 - Oct. 28 Youth deer-hunting weekend
Maine
Deer-Special archery season........Oct 3 - Nov 1
RUFFED GROUSE, PHEASANT*, BOBWHITE QUAIL
Only limited areas at certain times........................Oct. 1-Dec. 10
