Havana Casa particular help

Hi. Can anyone recommend a good place to stay for 4 adults and one 10 year old. We would need 2 rooms and are prepared to pay up to CUC 60 per room per night. First time to Cuba and it is my friend's 50th birthday so want to get it right. We will be staying in Havana for 8 nights so would prefer somewhere with some outside space. I have looked at numerous websites but confused with the choice of location i.e. Centro, Vieja, Vedado etc - some pointers here would be helpful as well. Hope someone can steer us in the right direction. Thanks.

Hi Houseofbamboo:

In the process of researching and booking my upcoming first trip to Havana, I needed answers to the same questions you're asking and compiled a ton of information. Have a look at the topics under Whitey's Ultimate First Timer's Guide to Havana, which is at the top right of the blog page: http://whiteyinhavana.blogspot.com/

There are topics on the districts, and finding a casa (if you choose to go that route). We chose Vedado, as it seemed to be a good compromise between the older Vieja and Centro districts, and posh Miramar. Vedado seemed to be close enough to the action, but not TOO close. We're staying at Casa Antigua - looks like a great place that may work for you also?

Hope this helps ... good luck.

I always check TripAdvisor.com and based on that, we've chosen to stay with Ana and Pepe. We leave this Friday! When I'm back, I'll post a review on TripAdvisor.com and maybe here, too. Looking forward to it!
