We booked and package deal from Perth to Christchurch about 5 years ago which included the motorhome hire. We were dissappointed that you could not access the living area from the front driving cabin as was indicated in brochures. It was with Maui. I would make sure this is possible to do this with the motorhome you hire as it is very convenient. We only did the South Island in April as there was so much to see and we were snowed out of Milford Sound for a day. Safe travels.

Hello, i have done extensive research on campervan rentals. It depends on what size you're renting. I recommend a smaller company that i rented from in 2003 and am renting again from this november: www.affordablemotorhome.co.nz
All i can say is compare specs. Diesel tends to be cheaper than petrol. Some campers don't have hot water. make sure they have a refrigerator and not just a "chilly bin" or cooler. some companies have an extra charge for one way hire, while others will pay for the camper to cross the strait. I just compared alot, check out www.fetchcampervanhirenewzealand.co.nz good luck

On my NZ page I have compared prices. The companies you mentioned are of the more expensive category.
Campervans: www.sleepervans.co.nz (7 to 30 days, from $42 to $89, depending on the season; no one way charge if you travel from Christchurch to Auckland and hire for 14 days+; standard insurance included) www.escaperentals.co.nz (more than 14 days, $46 to $102; including insurance; funky crazily painted vans) www.spaceships.tv (11 to 21 days, from $44 to $119, standard insurance included; one day free if you travel from Christchurch to Auckland) www.ezy.co.nz (off-season $39, peak season $102; also bigger models at $129/170) www.otagocampervans.com (off season $69 to 85, peak season $109 to 139) -------------------------------------------------- Big campervan and motorhome hire companies (price examples 5 to 20 days): www.britz.com (off season $34 to 95, peak season $131 to 259, depending on size of vehicle) www.maui-rentals.com (off season $72 to 166, peak season $142 to 255) www.kiwiautohomes.co.nz (Kiwi Autohomes; $100 to 200, depending on the season; max. 6 adults) www.nzcampers.com (Kiwi Campers; off season $49.50 to 117, peak season $162 to 306) www.keacampers.co.nz (smallest van $75 to 230, biggest motorhome $130 to 340) www.apollocamper.co.nz (off-season $29 to 85; sometimes super cheap relocation rates) www.pacifichorizon.co.nz (off season $59 to 125, peak season $199 to 315) www.breakaway.co.nz (enquiries about rates by email only; they also act as agents for other companies - check their list for lots of other companies) If you rent in Christchurch and want to drop it in Auckland you often get great rates, sometimes even free ferry. Not the other way round!

The latter is unfortunately one of those companies who only publish the rates of their super deals online. But it is interesting that they have a relocation special the other way round, from AKL to Chch.

Hi,
I would recommend Adventure Vans - http://www.nzmotorhomes.co.nz Their motorhomes are what I think the best thought through and have the best layout and largest beds. The newer vans are based on Mercedes Sprinter or Fiat - all with walk through and we liked it so much that we bought a large 6/7 berth from them after we had rented twice from Adventure for an extended period. Cheers Michael
