Hello!
We are taking a cruise from Savona and will be flying into Genoa airport. We were going straight from the airport to the port, but on reading these pages we'd now like to stay a few days in Genoa! Would three days be sufficient to see everything? Would anyone know how to get into Genoa from the airport by public transport? Would anyone know how to reach Savona from Genoa also by public transport. Many thanks for any help. (I can't wait to have some Italian ice cream - even in the winter!!) |

We did the same thing a few years ago. Take a taxi from the airport. We stayed at Hotel Britannia, which was directly across the street from the main train station.
We spent one night and then walked across the street with a roller bag (hotel stored the rest) and went up to Lugano. We spent two nights then came back to Genova and spent one night. Our room looked directly out over the cruise port, but high on a hill, so we took a taxi down to the ship. We had an overnight flight into Genova and made plans to get our room early. We got in early and napped, showered, and headed out to walk the area. I don't know if you have plans to see whatever, but within walking distance of the Britannia is some great stuff. The location is awsome, but then again Genova is a huge city so we didn't see much outside of the area directly around the hotel.

We did not do Costa, we did Celebrity (which we really didn't care for much). But we mirrored the route of the Costa ships and spoke with people aboard. The Costa ships looked very nice and people we talked with were happy with the ships. In fact we commented about maybe trying a Costa ship next time we cruise.
