Colonia del Sacramento Day trip from Bs. As. - how long?
Posted: Fri September 14, 2007 08:04 AM UTC
Hi there,

I was thinking about visiting Colonia as a day trip from Buenos Aires via the "fast" Buquebus. Probably taking the 11:15AM boat and coming back on the 5:30pm boat.

Is this enough time or should I try to take the 8:45am boat to have a little more time?

Do you need to purchase the tickets in advance or do you just show up at the port?

thanks!

We did the same witht the fast ferries and for us it was enough to get a good impression of Colonia. For more information/pics about Colonia see:

Don't know when you are planning your visit, but during high season I would recommend to make reservations in advance.

happy travels

Oi Carlos,

I´m here in Colonia now, and came over on Thursday....and probably could have bought my ticket that morning to leave the same day because not many people were traveling. Weekends seem to be busier, however, especially during the summer.

The old part of Colonia is very interesting, especially if you like stone colonial buildings, and walking up streets a few hundred years old. There are MANY small hotels in town, running from $12 dollars (Posada de los Pinos) to the 5-star places that some people cannot live without. Colonia is quiet (well, generally) and a great place to walk around, and you´ll find some find places to eat. I had a few excellent empanadas for lunch today, with a coke, for just under $2 dollars. You probably could visit it in a day, as you first proposed. Whatever you decide....it is definitely worth the trip!!!

Sounds a bit rushed to me, but maybe you are a quickee tourist :)) I like a bit more leisurely pace so I would recommend taking the earlier ferry have a nice walk about, long lunch and another long walk before heading back to BA. It can be a bit of a zoo at the port so if you would like to avoid all that then go to their office on Posadas 1452, just off Callao and purchase your ticket(s) there.
suerte
Sam
