Hi, thank you for the info on the hotels. Read that an earth quake had happened in Padang yesterday also affecting bukittinggi. Have made plans for my trip to bukittinggi in Dec but now I am not so sure if I should proceed with my visit or cancel it. Is it still safe to go? Hope anyone in padang or bukittinggi could give some opinion. I am looking forward to this trip.
Thank you. |

When I was in Bukit Tinggi, an earth Quake happened in the early morning, shaking my bed strong enough, but this is not stop me for traveling on the next day to its tourist spot of Bukit Tinggi and surrounding, the peoples said that the quake happened frequently.

i do not think the event affect your holiday that much. last time i went to padang - bukit tinggi via sibolga north sumatera by PELNI boat. rough to get the ticket - i mean ROUGH. But i am glad i have done it and would LOVE to do it again! It is FUN. People in Padang and Bukittinggi were pleasantly nice to me at that time. so it was one of memorable short visits. when i was there, there were plenty of landslides. As I also remember people there told me natural disaster is quite frequent over there. remember, good or bad, enjoy every minute of it!

I have been in touch with a friend Hendri +628126782675 in Bukittinggi and although they felt the quake there has been no damage at all.
Indonesia experiences earthquakes all the time so it is just a fact of life, some are reported in the media whilst the majority of them are not. There is no way I would let it prevent me from visiting Indonesia and I hope myself to be there in late December this year if I can get the time off work. In Jan 2005 I stayed in Painan- south of Padang in a beach house about 2 weeks after the huge Banda Aceh earthquake- just to show you I do not let these things worry me. Life is for living. Pamela. P.S. Hendri takes travellers on a 2 day trek from Bukittinggi down to Lake Maninjau through the jungle staying overnight at Anas homestay- a fab trip. See photos at www.webshots.com/user/ppamela2006 Here is a report from a traveller who did the trek with Hendri http://www.travelpod.com/travel-blog-entries/hongk
