| Nerja | Christmas in Nerja Posted: Wed September 12, 2007 10:57 AM UTC
My boyfriend and I are planning on spending christmas in Nerja. Its our first trip to the area so I've lots of questions. Is christmas dinner traditional in Nerja? Can anyone recommend somewhere to have a nice xmas lunch? are shops etc likely to be closed for the day? not worried about shopping per say, but would need to be prepared if everything closes. We may be staying in the CASA EL DUENDE at the Natural Park, in the outskirts of Nerja. has anyone heard of this appartment, and if so, what's it like. Any feedback would be greatly appreciated.

The celebration of Christmas in Spain is much more of a religious festival than a commercial bonanza. Though you will see lots of little decorations and lights.
Families usually gather together for a traditional Spanish family meal in Christmas Eve. I have known this to have a main course of fish or lamb. Although gifts may be exchanged then and on Christmas Day it is on the 6th January - the Day of the Three Kings - that children expect their gifts. Do not expect a Traditional Christmas Turkey Dinner - unless you go to one of the dozens of British owned restaurants that cater for Ex-pats and British tourists. Christmas Day is a Public Holiday and it would be unusual for general shops to be open. I hope you enjoy your fisrt visit to this area. Although it has grown and grown like Topsy! it still has a lot to offer. If you should decide to take a trip to Granada beware that it high in the mountains so wear something warm even if it is mild and sunny on the coast. Enjoy yourselves.

Thanks Ranger, I'm not hung up on the traditional turkey thing, but I would like to celebrate whatever way is traditional in the area, so will probably look for somewhere nice to eat on Christmas eve. Thanks for your help

Hello,
I am sorry I do not have an answer for you. I just happened to notice you mentioned you may have been staying at Casa El Duende. Did you end up staying there and could you tell me what you thought of it?
