Forum Question Posted By: Replies:
Dali What travel options are there between Dali (Yunnan) and Myanmar (Burma)?
Posted: Wed September 12, 2007 05:59 AM UTC
I will be heading toward Dali in late October and understand the best time to visit Myanmar and all its Buddhist pagodas is after November. There is only one hostel in the entire country, located in Yagon (Rangoon), as far as I am aware of. Also there is a train but I don't know whether it reaches as far as China or Thailand. Would anyone know the various ways a backpacker could enter Myanmar from Yunnan?

But even were you to get to Ruili and cross-over into Burma with a valid 28 day visa required in advance, you'd still have to pay for a guide to escort you to Lashio and it's not cheap.
