Colombo Travel Forum

Hello,
I have got a 4½ hours transit, the moment my plane landed at Colombo air port (10.40am), until the connecting flight departs for Delhi (3.10pm). I'm hoping, if possible, to go to Colombo city. I've heard that it's quite a distance from the airport. Can anyone tell me how could I make this possible ? I've read that the journey time from the airport to the city is almost the same (45 mins - 1 hour, 1 way)when taking a cab or by bus. Is there any faster way ? Where would you suggest me to go during that transit time ? Advices welcomed. Thanks.

The time you have in hand during the transit isnt sufficient to make a trip to Colombo and return if you wish to go about in colombo for some shopping. Other than shopping, there isnt much to do in Colombo. Well if you make it to colombo, it sounds like cutting it fine but make sure you get back fast or else you may miss your flight due to unpredictable traffic around colombo and on the airport road.

If you really want to make a trip outside the airport, just hop into Negombo the nearest town to the airport and maybe get to a hotel close by within the beach area and have a lovely sea food lunch or so. You can also visit the dutch canals in negombo and this would be just sufficient for you to do withing the time frame you have in hand.

Thanks for the info. Actually, I don't have to check in again for my connecting flight because I shall get my Colombo-Delhi boarding pass at the Kuala Lumpur airport itself. So, this will gv me some extra time. Anyway, thanks for the advice. I will go to Negombo then. Any particular shop in Negombo where I can get tees and souvenir for cheap price ? Thanks .

These would be available at the airport as well but even in Negombo you can find them but not quite sure of the places. If you ask your taxi driver, he would direct you to few places.
