Garmisch-Partenkirchen Travel from Frankfurt to Garmisch
Posted: Wed September 12, 2007 04:18 AM UTC
My daughter and I will be meeting my husband in Frankfurt next May and will travel to Garmisch by train. Plan on getting a euro pass. Can anyone tell me how long the trip takes? How to best make reservations? Will I have to make connections? Lived in Frankfurt 40 years ago but am now totally lost as to travel by train in europe. Any help would be great.

go into google and type in deutsche+bahn then when that website appears click on international guests and the info will be in English. There are direct trains from Frankfurt to Munich but then you will probably have to change for Garmisch, will have a look myself and tell you. If you do go into the website print off the appropriate timetable, save s alot of time on the day.

There is a direct train at 1018 a.m. from the main Frankfurt railway station , others require a change.

DB timetable
http://reiseauskunft.bahn.de/bin/query.exe/e
From: Frankfurt
From: FRA airport
To: Garmisch-Partenkirchen

> Plan on getting a euro pass.
Makes for this trip alone definitly no sense.

> How to best make reservations?
If you buy tickets through the DB timetable you can buy at the same time also seat reservations.
You can also just reserve seats through the DB timetable (e.g. if you have or plan to have a rail pass).

It is however yet too early. The timetable for 2008 won't be online before early November. And tickets can be bought at max. 3 months in advance.

If you like it cheap you could also use regional trains to Garmisch-Partenkichen. 7,5 hrs. 3 changes.
Sa or Su: EUR 33,00 (for all 3 of you together)
Mo-Fr: EUR 46,80 (for all 3 of you together)
2007 prices.
Select at the DB timetable as means of transport "only local transport" for this option. If you travel on a weekday and plan to use regional trains, I can explain you, how to make this for the above price.
