Well it seems more and more difficult to predict the weather these days when annual patterns are so unreliable. But, for what it's worth, our last visit to the towns you mention was in February/ March and it was quite chilly with fairly short daylight hours. I'd hazard a guess that by April/May not only would you have at least an hour and half of extra daylight but the temperatures will be rising. We stayed in the Parador in Caceres - a converted Senorial town house - it was most enjoyable. The Parador in Merida was full and I can't remember the name of the place we stayed in there nor in Badajoz. Since then we have always prebooked accommodation. It's a very interesting area to visit.

Spent 3 weeks in area in mid April to early May 2004. Weather was cold (20'ish) in most places out of the sun - slacks & jackets required. Follow the sun around the plaza when sitting outside drinking and eating. On a couple of days further north & higher in elevation it was freezing (Avila/Madrid).Sunrise was 8am Sunset 9pm.

Hello Peter - well, it all depends where you are coming from - your cold 20's is my warm !
Large areas of Spain did experience a series of severe winters around 2003 - 2005. We abandoned winter trips to the "sun" after 2005 when we had a snowfall followed by two weeks of torrential rain in March in Valencia and Alicante. So perhaps the best advice to travellers is be prepared for all seasons......
