Umbria A week in Umbria : Perugia,Assise, Gubbio, Spoleto, Orvieto...

Hi !

Next month , my wife and I will spend a week in Umbria . We will rent a car in Firenze and have booked a "agritourismo " between Assise and Perugia.
We want to go slow and visit unusual places far away from the crowd.
Is there someone online who can give us good adresses off the beaten track?
We won't visit Tuscany, just Umbria.
Many thanks.

Among many others, don't miss Bevagna.
A roman abandonet town with no crowds at all? Search for Carsulae! (near Narni)
Ciao

If you'll be there the 2nd Sunday in October, check out the Jousting Tournament in San Gemini. Also, search for Truffle or Chestnut sagre/festas if you'll be there at the end of October.

Hi. We did a very similar thing, kept away from the familiar. In Gubbio we picked up some good local maps from the visitor info centre and did some local drives which were beautiful up into the mountains. One, we decided to head to the coast to Ancona but got off the hiway for lunch and stumbled across these fabulous Frassis caves:

Frassisi.com
Among the many natural attractions of the Marche are the Frasassi Caves discovered in 1971 by a group of cavers from Ancona and regarded as some of the most beautiful in Europe. Part of this vast labyrinth has been illuminated and can be visited by guided tour along walkways. The largest cave (the Grotto del Vento) is large enough to contain Milan Cathedral. For more adventurous visitors, 2-3 hour excursions can be arranged in the company of experienced speleologists.

There were regular tours etc.
The were AMAZING. Like many days we would drive about, stop somewhere for lunch and ask the locals what we "must" see in the area and we discovered some wonderful things.
It was all good. Enjoy your trip.
