Re: whitewater rafting on Zambezie Posted: Tue September 11, 2007 06:59 PM UTC
There are some class 5 rapids (I remember one in particular that the guides referred to as class 6, which we had to get out of the boats and walk around) but in general they are more like 3s and some 4s. October is when I went, and the water level is fairly low at that time of year. I am not an experienced rafter either, but I went on this trip and definitely lived to tell the tale--although ALL of the rafts flipped over at one point or another and dumped everyone aboard into the river. Not to worry, there are no crocodiles in that section of the Zambezi, and you're wearing a life jacket and (more importantly) a helmet.
I thought this raft trip was one of the most fun and exciting river adventures I've ever had. I strongly recommend it--just make sure you are ready to get wet! I went with Shearwater, and they were highly professional.
