| Bologna | Car or Train from Bologna to Artimino/Pisa? Posted: Tue September 11, 2007 01:38 AM UTC
Hi,
My girlfriend and I are arriving in Bologna on Wednesday morning and going on to Artimino on Thursday afternoon. We are in Italy for 8 days. However, at the moment we are between two minds about whether it would be wiser to rent a car in Bologna and drive to Artimino, or just get the train to Pisa. Is the journey/scenery sufficiently interesting and captivating to justify going by car? Grazie mille. |

Yes, if you take secondary roads over the Appennines it's quite a lovely trip. As a general rule, the smaller the roads the better the scenery.

Thanks a million. Do you know how far it is from Bologna to Artimino, or where I would find such a calculator or route planner online?

Sorry, I don't know Artimino. I only know from driving over the mountains a few times that they're quite beautiful.

Hmmmn, since the train from Florence to Pisa doesn't appear to go through Artimino (the closest it appears to come is Carmignano, several kilometers away by car or bus), it would seem that the car would be a better idea.
In any case, you will be in the countryside, with many wonderful things within an hour's drive, so even if the drive down the A1 from Bologna to Florence is boring, who cares? Having the car in Artimino and being able to prowl around the countryside will be worth it! Bill
