We are doing a cruise and as part of it we are going to catch a train from Livorno to Florence. Can any suggest the best things to see, based on fact we will only have 4 hours in Florence. Do you think an hour in Pisa is enough time on the way back?

4 hours in Florence is plenty and in Pisa mainly tourists go to see the "Campo dei Miracoli" which includes the Leaning toweras well as the cathedrals and the dome.
I guess 2 hours would be enough. Have fun

One can spend days (weeks?) in Florence. With so little time, perhaps you might visit Pisa and Lucca for which you will have much more time and leave Florence for your next trip to Italy when you can spend several days there at least.
