I cannot find a train schedule for Sorrento-Do they not have a train station? If not where is closest one?

Hi Gene, there is a station in Sorrento served by the Circumvesuviana.
Have a look at: http://www.sorrentoinfo.com/timetable/local_train_sorrento.htm

Yep, Trenitalia doesn't get any closer than Castellammare di Stabia, I think (I'd have to look at the map again), so as Dominic pointed out, the Circumvesuviana is the way to go.
I'd give you the Circumvesuviana website, but it's rather unhelpful and all in Italian, I think...you can see from Dominic's link that it runs from Sorrento to Naples and back pretty frequently - so even if that link is out of date, it won't make a lot of difference. Note that Trenitalia and the Circumvesuviana don't share stations; for example, at Pompeii, the Circumvesuviana lets you off close to the entrance of the excavations, but the Trenitalia station (called "FS", which was the old name) is on the other side of the modern town (OK, all of a 15 minute walk). However, at Naples itself, the Circumvesuviana is more or less downstairs from the Trenitalia Napoli Centrale station. Go to www.viamichelin.com and look for "Piazza Giuseppe Garibaldi" in Naples - you'll see both stations on the right... Bill

Thanks Bill-That explains why trenitalia does not have sorrento on their schedule.. Thanks for the help. I am thinking about next year and maybe staying in Sorrento although I prefer to try Maratea. So far no luck on a decently priced hotel--Thanks-Gene
