Denver Daytrip scenic driving itinerary
Posted: Fri September 7, 2007 02:40 PM UTC
Hi again. I need some help in planning an itinerary. We like the idea of visiting those old mining Ghost towns and Casinos so I was thinking to drive from Denver to Central City, Black Hawk, Eldora...on to Boulder and then back to Denver. Is all of this possible in a day? If so, could someone suggest the best route back to Denver from Boulder. Thank you again in advance everyone! :)

Denver - Boulder is actually kind of boring. You can wind through the northern suburbs on, say, US 287, but it's just not very interesting (they're just suburbs). So you may as well just stick to 36.
You can go out to Golden on I-70/CO 58, then head north on CO 93, which puts you in South Boulder. Golden is kind of interesting, and there's always the Coors Brewery. CO 93 is pretty nice though as it follows the foothills and gives you some good views.
You can do all of that in a day, but I think you'll want more time in Boulder, although I do think it's better there in the evenings, so maybe it'll work.
But it would be better to go Central City - Eldora - Boulder first because it would put you on Boulder Canyon Road between Boulder and Nederland, which is gorgeous.
