Santo Domingo VERY VERY Short Trip
Posted: Fri September 7, 2007 12:46 PM UTC
If you had only five hours to spend in the Dominican Republic what would you do? Im flying into Santo Domingo and leaving out that evening. Should I hang out in Santo Domingo? If so, where? Should I go to the beach? Help! :)

Thanks.

Go around Santo Domingo - the old part of the city has some good museums, restaurants, etc. the resort areas are far away from the city and you don't want to miss your flight - be sure to reconfirm the flight time with the people at the airport and ask them how far in advance they want you there.

Allow 2 hours (at least) to go to the Old Town and back, depending on when you travel. Take a cab as that's the fastest and safest way for you to not miss your flight. Before getting in the cab, agree on a price and don't be afraid to haggle.

With that being said, the Old Town is as far as I'd venture since you only have 5 hours. Arm yourself with good walking shoes, a good map/history book and walk around the streets. Don't forget to take pictures and enjoy yourself :)

If it rains, maybe you can agree with the cab driver to drive you around? (always agreeing on a price before you do anything.)
