Kathmandu- hotels near Durbar Square.

was in Kath. in May '07 ,stayed at Nippon Guest house,Freak St.,Durbar Sq. Going again with friends in Nov. but can't contact this hotel. Anyone suggest clean,reasonably quiet! accomm. near Durbar Sq. in the $10-$25 bracket.? Or ,if we have to be in Thamel, same thing but at the end of Thamel closest to Durbar Sq.and the old-town.(Not so much walking for our old legs). Thaks, Peter.

Fuji Guest House in Jyatha is pretty nice - its about a 5-10 minute walk from Durbar Sq and Thamel. I stayed in their most simple room (single) for US$9 but i saw their nicer room which had AC and TV and new furnishing, newly remodeled bathrooms for US$35 ... but you can DEFINITELY talk them down to US$20-25.

I stayed here in Freak Street, very simple hotel. It has a lot of stairs though, maybe not too well for your old legs. Depending on the location of your room it will we reasonably quiet...
