Bus travel to Garmisch-Partenkirchen Posted: Wed September 5, 2007 11:21 AM UTC
I have clients wanting to travel from Stuttgart to Garmisch-Partenkirchen by bus, via the Black Forest. So far the only transportation I have been able to find is train schedules via Munich. I have also looked at buses on the RVO website but haven't managed to find anything from Stuttgart. Does anyone know of any website that will give me bus schedules in Germany? Or if bus travel is even feasible on this route.
Many thanks in advance.

Blackforest is south-west of Stuttgart. Garmisch-Partenkirchen south-east.
Baden-Württemberg railroad map

Black Forest is basically enclosed by the railroads between Karlsruhe - Pforzheim - Horb - Rottweil - Donaueschingen - Waldshut - Basel - Freiburg - Offenburg - Karlsruhe.

One option would be to travel by IRE to Friedrichshafen and from there via Lindau, Kempten and Pfronten to Garmisch-Partenkirchen.
A route which is in parts really scenic. And you could do it on a combination of Baden-Württemberg Ticket (EUR 27,00 for 2-5 persons) plus Bavaria Ticket (EUR 27,00 for 2-5 persons).
The Ausserfernbahn (Kempten - Pfronten - Garmisch-Partenkirchen) goes partly through Austria, but is covered fully by the Bavaria Ticket.

As long as you don't charter your own bus ...

The only national coach routes you can find are on this site:
http://www.deutsche-touring.de/id/10start-engl/10englstart1.html
So no, bus travel is not feasible on the route you want, unless you have a group of approx. 20-46 people and charter a bus. For a group of less than 20 people have your clients take the train.

How many clients do you have ? You can always charter a tour bus if it is important to/for them to use that mode of travel. There are many such businesses in Germany. Just type "Stuttgart Tour Bus Operators", or something similar, on google, yahoo, etc. When the results come up click on "translate this page", and you should be on your way. You might check here on VT and some of the other travel sites to see if the companies that look acceptable have been reviewed. You could also ask in the forum whether Germany has an organization that monitors businesses, (mainly complaints), or if there is some kind of trade organization that might monitor that particular industry, and/or sets standards which members have to meet. You might want to check and make sure they aren't wanting to travel by motorhome, so as to avoid hotels, and travel a bit more on their own schedule. People do have different terminology for such things, especially if you are dealing with Asians or Americans, like me. Gary
