Check out the hotels in the Isla Verde / Condado area (Isla Verde area has a slightly nicer beach).
These two areas are easy to get to from the airport (by taxi) and it is also easy to get to Old San Juan (again by taxi or take the bus). From this area you can easily get to El Yunque rainforest (45mins by car), Ponce (60-75 mins by car) Intercontinental, Marriott, Ritz, Holiday Inn (if you want something cheaper) or Condado Plaza are decent. Check out El Morro etc.. in Old San Juan Hope this helps more info at this blog http://www.visit-the-coqui.com
