I am going to cardiff next week and I know that prices for food are pretty high. Does anyone have a heads up on cheap places to eat near the city centre? Thanks

I've always pointed people towards the JD Wetherspoon chain of pubs that offer cheap food and drink although they do lack atmosphere at times. There are 7 shown in the Cardiff area and at least a couple of these will be in a city centre.

Try 'chip shop alley' aka Caroline street at the bottom end of St Marys street by the cafe quarter on Mill Lane.
Greggs bakeries do a great range of hot and cold snacks and there are many good Chinese and Indian restaurants that do an 'eat all you can' lunch for a few £s.
Of the JD Wetherspoons bars, 3 are in the heart of Cardiff with the others within a mile of the centre.

Also if you walk about 10 minutes from the city centre to an area called Cathays you can find lots of cheap and nice pubs there. It's the student area so prices are low and the quality is still very good. Try places like the Pen and Wig, Gassy Jacks, The Social, and my favourite, The Woodville.
