Can anyone advise me the cheapest way to travel to Bangkok from Cairns? is there a low cost airline that does this route direct?

There's no airline that goes directly but Tiger Airways goes direct from Darwin if you can get a cheap domestic flight to there or Jet Star goes direct to Singapore and you could probably get an Air Asia flight from there to Bangkok.

HI!
As previously advised, Jetstar does fly Cairns-Singapore and besides Air Asia, both Tiger Airways & Jetstar Asia (also budget airlines) fly to BKK from Singapore.

or can go cathay direct cairns - HK then get the connection from HK to BKK
