Kolkata (Calcutta) How easy is it?

How easy is it (does any-one know) to get a train from Calcutta - Mumbia - Goa, and then back again. I have looked on the net and it looks quite difficult to board a train in India without having made reservations quite a long time in advance.

Dear friend,

Yes it is true that you hv to book the train well in advance. However, in most of the train they have tourist quote, only wat you hv to do go to the tourist country in railway station and show your passport and issue the ticket, but it is also depend on availability of seat as seat are limited.

Either you can take a flight from Kol/Mumbai as now a days very cheaper flights are operating. like kingfisher/Spice jet, even in well advance if you take a ticket you will get cheaper fare as same like train fare. You can book this flight online throught your credit card.

Hi Try irctc.co.in to book your tickets in advance .

Indianrailways.org provides comprehensive information on availability of
trains.

When are you planning to come? Starting next month (Puja & then Diwali), the festive season would continue till Christmas/New Year and getting a train reservation would be difficult. However you could try out irctc (as mentioned in another post) & now tickets are issued 60 days (barring the date of travel) in advance. This website is good & it works.
Why not try low cost airlines like Air Deccan, Indigo , Spice or even Indian ? booked well in advance can get you good deals (barring Indian , the 1st three have good working websites).
Hope this helps..
thanx
