Posted: Sun September 2, 2007 04:53 PM UTC
I'm going to go from Czech to Wroclaw in the mid of Sep.By12/9,I'll probably be in Cesky Krumlov,is it a must/more convenient to go back to Prague to get a train/bus to Wroclaw?Or there're some stops nearby?

I'm going to Poland by myself with a big luggage.Would you recommend me to go by train or bus?I checked the raileurope,it's almost50euros.Anyone knows how much is the bus?and where can I buy/find it?I did find some bus company web,but they're not in english...I'm leaving on Wed,somebody plsssss help me!

Double check websites in other languages; there's often a tiny UK (or sometimes USA) flag in a corner somewhere. Clicking it will bring up the English version. The bus site has this (I suspect it's the same one as I pasted into my other reply).

As for the train, raileurope is quoting me 18GBP one-way Warsaw to Krakow, which is considerably less than 50 euros. I'd go by train, personally (less tiring than the bus) and just buy the ticket at the station.

Praha-Wroclaw is precisely 21.20 Euro one-way without any discount (regular rail fare) if bought in Czech Republic and slightly more if bought somewhere else (other country). Buying from Raileurope you will ensure the least professional service for the highest possible price which has nothing to do with the regular railfare.

Going round-trip and combining more cities can yield higher savings. For instance, if you are going to Budapest through tickets or round-trip tickets or maybe (depending on the total number of travellers) CITY-STAR tickets bought in Czech Republic or Poland would make more sense and further reduce the price. If you provide more information about the journay I can slightly "optimise" the tickets for price. In any case you should buy them always at the station of the departure country and sometimes buying from conductor is even less.

Never buy in "third" country.

1) "Prague->CK->CB->Prague"
Sorry, but what is that "CK" and "CB"?

2) Zakopane is somewhat in "wrong" part of the journay because there is no rail border crossing nearby.
So you probably will need to go by bus from Kraków to Zakopane, but it's better if you try to get as much of your journay covered as possible on a single ticket within Poland to get advantage of degressive rate.

At first, my idea would be to travel from Praha to, say, Plavec in Slovakia (buying just a very inexpensive Praha-> Kosice ->Plavec ticket (32,80 Euro). Also doing so you will enjoy the sights of Tatra going to Kosice and have the possibility to see Kosice as well. Before boarding your train to Krakow in Kosice (that means, in Slovakia!) buy the Plavec-Budapest round-trip ticket (will cost 28.48 Euro - it's cheaper than the one-way which would be 35.60 Euro otherwise).

The discount in Slovakia buying the tickets to Poland will be just slightly less, than buying in Czech Republic a Slovakia-Poland roundtrip. However, in Czech Republic we have a good calculator and hopefully it will expedite your tickets, while in Slovakia they may get confused because your routing is complicated. Therefore this round-trip ticket will be the best for you (just print it out and go to the ticket office in Praha (that means, Czech Republic), they will appreciate, it's so simple for them!

This ticket will cover Krakow, Wroclaw, Gdansk at once, on a single sheet and it's a round-trip price from Plavec. The only issue is, it does not go via Warszawa, but as you see from this map:

http://www.bueker.net/trainspotting/map.php?file=maps/poland/poland.gif

it covers actually a much larger distance than going via Warszawa. I would ask thre ticket office to "include" Warszawa as "via" option on the "back" session of the ticket, so they would write
"Wroclaw*Poznan/Warszawa" in the "via" section, thus givin you the option to choose either going via Wroclaw-Poznan OR via Warszawa either way, while paying the more expensive price. That would save you buyig tickets in Poland (and being confused with many different carriers) and the same time maximise the degressivity of the tariff.

The rest is easy: in Budapest buy a Budapest-Zagreb round-trip (again, much cheaper than one-way!!!), it's slightly under 30 Euro. In Zagreb sell the return part Zagreb-->Budapest at university for whatever price you can get or a free lunch.
