Manchester Manchester United Match tips

I want to plan a surprise birthday trip in May to see Manchester United compete against Wigan and would like any tips on where the best seats are located, how to purchase them, where to eat, and where to stay for the duration of the 4 day trip. Any information is appreciated. I have contacted MU hospitality but they are not very helpful. Thanks very much in advance!

If your trip is revolving around the ManU & Wigan match on 6th October you may want to reschedule. This match is sold out.

The match is at Wigan, Sunday 11th May 2008, therefore MUtd will not be able to help with this match. This is the last match of the season so it could be part of an exciting climax, who knows with the season just started. Contact the Wigan Athletic ticket office for more info details on

This will be the most popular match of the season at Wigan, without question, so demand will be huge but Wigan should have tickets available for the occaissional fan. You need to apply as soon as possible. It may be that the match tickets are allocated by ballot so good look.

The best seats will be taken up by season ticket holders and the MUFC allocated seats will be snapped up by their own season ticket holders from Old Trafford. The JJB stadium where Wigan play is a modern ground and therefore the views are quite good throughout. I would suggest getting as high up as possible as in the lowest seats you cannot see what is happening at the other end of the ground. I've only ever sat behind the goal at the JJB which is good enough. You may prefer on the side so as to see more of both ends.

For a four day stay Wigan, nice though it is, is not the place to stay. The JJB is within walking distance of the town centre and I would suggest staying somewhere else and making a day trip out of the match. You could train to Liverpool, Manchester, North Wales, Lancashire coast (it may even be sunny in May). If you want to stay for ONE night in Wigan I would suggest the travel inn/travel lodge/holiday inn express type accomodation.

I do not know where you are travelling from so hope this is not too condescending - plan ahead and have a good trip.

As a supplement - depends on the age of your party but there is a Frankie and Benny's and cinema in the same retail park as the JJB stadium.
