Posted: Fri August 31, 2007 06:44 AM UTC
i will be visiting bacolod city in october to attend the annual masskara festival. what are the other main attrations in bacolod city? any place i should see? any food i shouldn't miss? how do i get there and how much is the fare? i would like to photograph landscapes, festivity, and mostly locals. i'm planning on checking other tourists spots within and near the city so i would have to go far to get back to the city's festivity.

please help me by bragging about bacolod city's finest. thank you guys.

on my latest masskara trip, i visited Silay City (by jeep) where the ancestral houses are. i was also introduced to El Ideal (pronounced ilidyal), its an old bakery that sells tasty things! sugar or ex-sugar plantations are nice landscapes on the way there. check-out victorias sugar milling company, they also allow tourists.

back in the city, i took a closer look at their capitol building and grounds. enormous and good quality materials used on those pillars. the lagoon in front with a lot of fish was a nice photo-op place (some birds dive to catch fish from the water I think!)

manokan country lured me well! just ask around on what it is and forget about your diet!

attend a guided tour at the negros museum. I learned a lot there from sacadas to how women flirted in those early years. There is also a fantastic doll collection in there. do try manually churning that old gramophone with disks as heavy as a kilo!

do a lot of people watching esp at a place they call goldenfield (I think). then again, the paradaes occur three days in a row (different categories)

Mambukal Resort - dipping pools, swimming pools, camping grounds, bat watching, slide for life, and the 7 falls. they have a short-cut drive that will send you to the 6th fall

the beaches are outside the city and will take you a good 1 to 4 hours drive depending on the location plus boat/bangka rides.

im not familiar with this but there is a place in silay. its a cliff, overlooks the city (silay)

food:
manukan country/lion's park/bacolod's chicken haus - chicken inasal
aboy's restaurant - native food
bar 21 - batchoy but all food on menu are good to try
pepe's, bob's - mostly western
calea, cafe bob's, kuppa - coffee and dessert

bring a good pair of shoes for walking, areas of the festivity or those near are usually close to traffic during masskara. other activities will also be going on around the city/schools. bands, small or big concerts as well. left and right partying awaits you

You can also visit Negros Forest, it's located near the Capitol, beside the Lagoon. It houses Negros' flora and fauna as well as the endangered animals like the bleeding heart pigeon.

You can also go to Barangay Patag in Silay, if you can get someone to take you there. The air is cool and there are also resorts and farms there.

If not in Patag, then maybe in Gintubdan. I hope you can get a local to show you around. :)

I'm planning to visit Bacolod this coming January. Unfortunately, I dont known anyone from there hence, any recommendation for a cheaper place to stay (from airport) will be appreciated. would it be best if I stay in the heart of Bacolod? Nearby stores, market and souvenir places is my ideal location to stay. Please help... thanks.. Do email me instead at terry_1124@yahoo.com.
