Nairobi late flight to Nairobi
Posted: Thu August 30, 2007 09:36 PM UTC
Hello

We are arriving after our two week safari at Jomo Kenyatta airport at about nine o'clock. He have pre-arranged pick-up with our travel company to our booked hotel (Intercontinental).
I'm a little worried to arrive after dark to Nairobi. Is it safe doing this or should we stay at the aiport in the lounges (we have access to first class lounges) unil our 9 am flight the next day?
Thank you !

But you say that you will be picked up at the airport by your hotel. So I'm not quite sure what the problem is. They will meet you in the airport after baggage claim and drop you off at the door to your hotel. What exactly are you worried about?

We did the exact same flight, arriving late as well.
Absolutely no problem. It will be fine. Go outside and to the line of men all holding signs until you find your own. It is quite smooth and you'll be met with a HUGE smile.
By the way, the Intercontinental was a fabulous hotel. We actually preffered it to the overrated Stanley Hotel.
The lobby bar was a wonderful way to unwind after that long flight from the US.
NOTE: restaurant will be closed by time you arrive so you're limited to snach menu and sandwhiches but, none the less, quite tasty.
They have live music in the bar but we prefered to sit outside in the raised lobby and enjoy the music in a quieter atmosphere.
Breakfast was wonderful and a nice garden area is right outside the dining area.
FRET not, you'll be just fine.

Nairobi is a surprisingly safe and hassle free airport for a city which has such a bad reputation for safety at night.

As Homer said, as soon as you arrive, there will be somone there with a sign with either your name or the name of the hotel. The whole aiport area is patrolled and no hustlers are allowed, so you won't get the throng of taxi drivers vying for your attention. People are lovely and friendly and it is such a relaxing way to arrive in Kenya.

Enjoy Kenya and your safari, I am sure you will have a ball!!!!!
