| Delft | Guesthouse de Uylenburg in Delft Posted: Thu August 30, 2007 09:19 PM UTC
Has anyone stayed at this guesthouse? It is 2 Km from Delft. There is
a bus from the train station and a 10 min walk from there to the Guesthouse. Are there taxis at the train station that would take us such a short way, in case the buses have stopped running at night? Thanks |

I have been to Delft many times but we stay in the town centre so do not know the guesthouse. However the buses and taxis leave from outside the station - the buses seem to run late but I would take a taxi on your first journey - the prices are quite reasonable and they are properly metered.

Hi! I agree with Britannia2. I went to Delft many times and last time, we stayed just outside of town. We had our own car but I'm absolutely sure you can get a cab wherever you are. Especially at the train station in Delft.
You'll love Delft! and the surrounding countryside is very pleasant.

Advice to take a taxi when you arrive, especially if you have luggage. Count on around 20 euros for the fare. Taxis are available for almost 24 hours at the Delft train station. Mind: do not go to the Delft-Zuid (South) station.

The Delftse Taxi Centrale is reacheable day and night:
Tel. 015-2191919 Prices: http://www.dtdeltax.nl/index.php?pagina=prijzen For a normal 1-4 person taxi: € 1,94 per km, with a € 2,70 starting price. The route you're taking from station to Delfgauw is 4.5 kms. So your trip should cost around € 11,43 Route: http://www.viamichelin.com/viamichelin/int/dyn/con The last bus on a weekday and Saturday is at 0.44 hrs, with Connexxion bus no. 80, direction IKEA Tanthof. Last bus on Sunday is at 0.10 hrs, with Connexxion bus no. 82, direction IKEA Tanthof. Price: stamp off 2 strips per person on a 'strippenkaart' (see Netherlands transportation tips), which amounts to € 0,91 per person.

ATLC - the most difficult thing for foreigners in Holland is knowing how many strips to use on a Strippenkaart. Is there any simple guidance?

Like many other (Dutch) VT-ers, I have that explained in my Netherlands Transportation tip which I update each year with the new prices:
http://members.virtualtourist.com/m/2bf0c/312/9/ (scroll down a bit, I think it's the 5th tip). Another explanation can be found at the Amsterdam Public Transport website: http://www.gvb.nl/english/travellers/ticketsandfar Most bus-stops and tram stops and all metro stops have a map of the city you're in. The cities divided into zones. The word 'zone' is the same in Dutch. You always need to stamp the amount of zones plus 1. Within a major city, that's usually no more than 1 or 2 zones, so that is usually 2 or 3 strips to stamp off. It doesn't matter if you use tram, metro or bus or all 3 during any given trip. You simply stamp off the necessary amount at the beginning of your trip.

We Dutchies are doomed to search and count zones before any trip (followed by the inevitable add up of 1).
If you know station names and/or street addresses we are highly helped (in Dutch) by: http://www.9292ov.nl/ The "Strippenkaart"is explained at: http://www.vbn-bv.nl/ovinfo/algemeen_en.asp?vPaginaID=203 And mind you, they are working on plastic cards! PJ

'working on plastic cards', PJ?
They're already in full function! Obviously not in your neck of the woods! A million OV-chip cards have already been issued...

Chopping down trees is on my to-do list.
BTW just read in my newspaper public transportation tickets are going up next year. Even BTW (VAT) to 20%??? Extra gas tax on air travel tickets. Where's my un-taxed bicycle? PJ

Yep, public transportation tickets go up often. The VAT is news though. It doesn't necessarily mean that prices will go up.

ATLC The website states it is 2 km from Delft. So their 10 min walk from
the bus is probably 20 min. The directions from the web take train to central staion. Bus 64, direction of Delftse Hout to bus stop Delftse Hout. From there a 10 min walk. We really wanted to stay in the center but couldn't get reservations for a Saturday night. We need to have hotels where the rooms are no higher than the first floor. I am not too excited paying for a taxi to drop off the luggage, back into Delft, back to the hotel and then again to the train station.

The website hasn't been updated, that's the reason of the confusion. More than a year ago some bus routes within Delft have changed. The 64 doesn't exist anymore and has been replaced by 80.
From the Delft train station take the bus in the direction of IKEA/Delftse Hout (not Tanthof). You can check times on www.connexxion.nl Type in Delft and click search (Zoek) Note: on saturdays between 11.00-18.00 bus/tram within Delft is free of charge! However, you need a pass for that which can be obtained from the office of Connexxion on the square in front of the train station where the bus stops are.

I used www.9292ov.nl.
Are you saying this website is incorrect, nhoolb? (9292ov.nl is the leading website to all public transportation. But of course it can't be faultless though I never noticed any up to now).

I am totally confused. Is Delft Hout the same as Delftse Hout.
Michelen says it is .08 miles to the guesthouse from Delftse Hout. A 19 minute walk. I looked on the 2 websites and, of course, I don't understand a thing. Help!!

www.connexxion.nl is too complicated to use for a non-Dutch speaker.
Don't be confused. My info is correct: Bus 80 or 82 direction IKEA. It's the 5th busstop called Delftse Hout. Then it's a 12 minute walk to your accommodation. For the rest, see my first posting. If you want to check yourself: wwww.9292ov.nl VAN = FROM Click Treinstation Fill in: Delft NAAR = TO Click Adres Straat: fill in Noordeindseweg Huisnr: fill in 70 Plaats: fill Delfgauw Datum: choose date Tijd: choose time Finally click Geef Reisadvies You get 5 possibilities at a time in the next screen. Choose Laatste Reismogelijkheid for the latest departure. Eerder = Earlier Later = Later Lopen = walking

I said that the website of Uylenburg hasn't been updated. It says to take bus 64. That was correct a year ago. Not now anymore.
Connexxion has better advice than 9292ov. As you can see I live in Delft, for almost 40 years now. I am surprised that there seems to be no hotel room available within the Delft city limits. Anyway, I am ending and leaving this discussion here.

Yes, probably Connexxion is better, but as I said: for a non-Dutch speaker very difficult to navigate.
I've visited and reviewed many hotels in the center of Delft when I was organising a conference, and I can understand with the limitation of need a room no higher than 1st floor, it limits the choice. A lot of hotels are in historical old buildings with nooks and crannies that make the layout of the hotels less straightforward.

Well, I decided to try again this morning to see if maybe there was a
cancellation for a hotel. I found one on Booking.com for the Hotel Leeuwenburg. I called the hotel and the lady said they would give us a room on the ground floor. I am sooooo happy. I sent an Email to the guesthouse canceling our reservation. Thank you all for all your help, patience and time. ALTC, thank you for the info in using the website. It will help us for future use while we are in the Netherlands.

when I first started looking, but everything was booked. It has very good reviews. It was just too much work getting back and forth to Delft. Thanks
