We're a family with a couple of oyung(ish) children looking for some where to stay in or around Yangshou.

We're on a "backpackers" budget. We'd like some where clean, fairly quiet, western toilets would be nice but not essential.
Any suggestion?

Yangshuo is much nicer and less expensvie than Guilin. It's been a while since I last visited but I've read it's changed quite a bit and is now popular also amongst the young chinese crowd as well.

You can book less expensive boat cruises along the karst infested Li-jiang River from Xing-Ping and these tours can even be booked from Yangshuo.

Highly also recommend going up to the Longsheng/Longi terraced rice fields and again, this can be arranged by local Yangshuo travel agencies. No need to prebook from outside the country.

Hi Andrew, I stayed in Moon Resort (a small hotel indeed) in spring and was quite pleased with the helpful staff and the environment; They charged me 80RMB/night. The hotel have western toilet and shower in your room and it's quite clean for China :) Food also was very tasty!
