I am looking for transportation for two adult males, from Wawa area to the National Park in Pic River on September 9, 2007. Is there any public transportation, as a bus or train or is there any local business that drives that way, where we could hitch a ride. Is hitch hiking legal in Canada? Thank you for your responce to my many questions. Steve Dake

Laws regarding hitchhiking vary from Province to Province. In BC, yes it is illegal to stand directly on the freeway, or for a motorist to stop on the freeway and pick you up, people do it, especially travelling on the major highways in and out of BC, in most cases if your caught standing on the freeway the RCMP will escort you or tell you to get off. Standing on an entrance ramp or on a roadway not designated as a freeway seems to be no problem.

The park is in a remote part of Ontario. It is another 2 hours drive from Wawa. You can try hitchhiking from there, but I'm not sure whether it'll be an easy thing to do in Ontario. You can probably take a greycoach that is heading to Thunder Bay, the next big town. Tell the driver where you like to get off. But you still have to hike a long way (10km+) from the main highway to the park's entrance.
