| Mount Everest | Base camp in winter Posted: Wed August 29, 2007 12:01 PM UTC
Hi All,
I'm planning a trip to Nepal, and would like to do the Everest Base Camp trek. Unfortunately the only time I have to do this is during the month of december, however I do not know if this is possible at this time of year. Has anyone done this trek during december? Are the high altitude parts passable? If the answer is no, does anyone know a good Nepal trek that is do-able at that time of year? Many thanks, Matt |

Hi Matt,
I trekked to EBC in Jan/Feb with my girlfriend and there was hardly any snow, however I believe the conditions were abnormal for the season. I would recommend talking to the Himalayan Rescue Association (details below), who have rescue posts in the Everest and Annapurna regions. I used them before heading up to EBC and found them really useful. If you want to take a guide with you I can also recommend Kalam Tamang who I trekked with around Annapurna, he speaks very good English, is friendly, knowledgable and fun to trek with. He can be contacted with the email address: trekguide.kalam@gmail.com Dhobichaur, Lazimpat (North Gate of the Royal Palace) P.O. Box No. 4944, Kathmandu, Nepal Phone: 977 1 4440292 / 4440293 E-mail : hra@mail.com.np

Yes, december is the winter season in Nepal but many visitor submmit EBC trek during this month too. Yes little bit snow in the path but that doesn't make any difference in your trekking. If someone really intrested to do it then they can easily submmit it. main and focused problem in the block of path because of the snow otherwise it is ok.
Ghorepani/poonhill is the best apart then the EBC you can simply do Annapurna region trek which is far more better as comparing in the weather and no chances of snow in the path too. cheers simon
