Weekend in Ghent in October
Posted: Wed August 29, 2007 09:49 AM UTC
I was thinking of spending a long weekend in Ghent in October. I have never visited the city before. I like art galleries, exploring on foot, nice cafes, some shopping, the odd meal out. Can anyone recommend a 'Top 10' things to do, see, taste, experience?

thanks

Sam

Thanks, I had spotted that on the MSK Ghent website and made a note. I am hoping someone who lives in Ghent or has visited might be able to suggest a few things 'off the beaten track' too.

Cheers

Sam

Luchonda lives there and he knows a lot about great restaurants and pubs :)
my Ghent page is not much but if you like I can send you the link to the Gent pictures I keep.
Pub certainly Waterhouse; Dreupelkot; Dulle Griet
visit Saint Baafs cathedral
I think the museum of fine arts is reopened and there are some more interesting places to go see exhibitions.
have a look at

choose English and good luck :)

Can't really add much to this: http://www.tripadvisor.com/Attractions-g188666-Activities-Ghent_East_Flanders.html.
If you are on a budget, Het Huis van Alijn has the cheapest café in Ghent if not the whole of Belgium, but I always have to have a drink at Pakhuis (http://www.pakhuis.be/sfeer/default.aspx - pic is of the restaurant, not the café part) which is possibly at the opposite end of the spectrum.
The Begijnhof area is not very well known and is nice if you have seen the main attractions.
Really the best thing to do in Ghent is wander.

If it is after oct 13th you can also go to the expo of Paul McCarty in the museum of modern art, those who visited the exhibition in Middelheim, the open air museum in Antwerp, know that it will be great
