| Apeldoorn | Visiting Het Loo and the Kroller-Muller Museum Posted: Wed August 29, 2007 03:20 AM UTC
We have booked a river trip from Amsterdam to Buderpest next year. We would like to arrive 2 or 3 days prior to departure from Amsterdam and visit the Kroller-Muller Museum and Het Loo. Once in Apeldoorn both destinations seem achievable by bike. My question how to we get from Amsterdam to Apeldoorn? I'm not keen on the idear of hiring a car. Is there a bus or train connection and if so where would they depart from?
Thanks Jill |

There are 1 to 2 direct trains each hour from Amsterdam Centraal to Apeldoorn.
Walking from the Apeldoorn Station to the Loo castle takes 45 minutes.; see the trip I made with member Imaniac at: http://members.virtualtourist.com/m/tt/45af5/#TL At the Apeldoorn station you can rent bicycles, but you could take a bus to the Kroller-Muller Museum and get a bicycle there at no cost to use for the day in the park. The bus station is next to the Apeldoorn train station. PJ

To be able to make the choice that PJ gives you, you may want to know the following:
There was a recent discussion about the free bicycles at Park Hoge Veluwe (where the KMM is situated) at http://forum.virtualtourist.com/discussion-372474- Bicycle rent at the Apeldoorn train station: - you need to ID yourself (it may be handy to have a few photocopies of your passport so that you can leave one behind, instead of your passport if they ask it) - There's a € 25 per bike deposit which you get back when returning the bicycle(s) - reservations in advance not possible - opening hours Mon-Sat: 9-22 hrs, Sun 10-22 hrs - for all other information, write to info@vvvapeldoorn.nl or Tel +3155-5225184

Palace Het Loo:
By bike: about 15 minutes from the railway station; rental bikes are available in the bicycle shop at (beneath) the railway station By public transport from the railway/bus station: lines: 102 and 104 - stop 'Paleis Het Loo'; lines: 5, 10, 96 - stop 'Gedenknaald'. On foot: 40 minutes from the railway/bus station. See for more info about the Palace: http://members.virtualtourist.com/vt/tfr/1/711f0/4/16b027/ (There are some nice hotels on walking distance of the palace). Kröller Muller Museum: By bike; about 1 hour from Apeldoorn along a scenic road to the village of Hoenderloo and further to the museum; By public transport: There is a bus service from Apeldoorn train/bus station every day throughout the year. Bus stops immediately adjoining the museum. (see for more info about KMM: http://www.kmm.nl Be aware: both 'museums' are closed on Mondays. happy travels to my hometown jaap
