Re: Suggestions for Scotland / Faroe Islands Posted: Tue August 28, 2007 06:37 PM UTC
I'm sure the Faroes are fascinating, but not particularly easy to get to from Scotland. You will need to take a ferry from Lerwick on Shetland or, possibly, Scrabster on the north coast of Scotland (if the ferries run at that time). Ferries here: http://www.aferry.to/faroe-islands-ferries.htm
Flying is possible (from London, with some flights stopping at Aberdeen) but will be expensive (and you will have a very limited choice of flights). Operator is Atlantic Airways on www.atlantic.fo
Why spend a few days on Orkney & its islands instead? Full of history, unspoilt, fantastic for birds and views: lokk at the VT Orkney pages for info & tips. Highly recommended! Ferries to Orkney from Scotland on http://www.undiscoveredscotland.co.uk/orkney/pentlandferries/index.html
You can fly from Inverness, Aberdeen and Edinburgh (as well as English airports), should you wish: carrier is British airways (www.britishwairways.com) but again, it won't be cheap.
If you do intend to fly to either destination then you should book your tickets as soon as you can; flights are few, planes are small and they fill up quickly.
