| Gibraltar | A couple of questions regarding day trip to Gib Posted: Tue August 28, 2007 02:22 AM UTC
I'll be in Gibraltar around Oct 24th - I'll be coming from Tangier around 12 or 1pm local time and departing 10pm on a night bus to Madrid.
Is there luggage storage at the La Linea bus station? I know there's one at the airport but I rather not use that option. Secondly, can I use euros or must I use the British pound? Lastly, given my time in Gib (7-8 hours) will that be enough time to go inside the caves, visit the seige tunnels, moorish castle, etc? Is it a good idea to buy a return ticket for the cable car and natural reserve? Actually one more question, I've read that the shopping is cheap - what kind of shopping is there? And cheap by European standards? Can anyone give a comparison? Sorry one more question - has anyone taken the night bus from La Linea to Madrid? How was it? Were buses comfortable? Thanks in advance! |

I went to the Rock of Gibraltar last year, 4-5 hours is plenty of time to see everything. It's an easy walk up and an easy walk down.

You can use euros or pounds in Gibraltar.
Watch out when shopping.Cigarettes and booze are very cheap, but check on your allowance when entering Spain. If you want perfume or cosmetics check prices at home first so that you can compare. Also cameras etc are not always bargains.Every time I have been to Gib the Moorish Castle has been closed so it may not be worth a visit.Check opening times for caves, tunnels & cable car.If you are arriving about lunch time you may only have the afternoon to visit these places. You could do the mini bus tour or take the cable car up then walk down the steps near the tunnels and into casemates where you could have a meal before catching the night bus.

Hi there
7 to 8 hours you'll have plenty time to visit Gib. I suggest your first stop for a full english breakfast for a reasonable price at the Star Bar about 10 minute walk from the docking area, I can state that you'll need a full belly for the 14 hour drive to Madrid lol. I haven't travelled by bus to Madrid but I guess you'll have plenty of stops....coaches in Spain are pretty decent but don't expect too many luxury's. If weather permits yes get a return cable car ride, you can see Morocco to Marbella, you have St Michaels Cave in the nature reserve and World War tunnels, rock apes, Moorish Castle has now reopened after a spell of refurbishments, etc. here in Gib we accept all currencies but I suggest you change some to sterling (british pounds) as most shops will charge you a higher fee if paying in Euro's. You are allowed to cross 100 cigarettes (one carton) and one liter of spirits into Spain via the frontier where you will be met by the spanish Guardia Civil customs. If you are going to purchase electronics etc always ask for a discount with a smile and you'll be plenty surprised. PS - catch the blue buses, £.90p return tickets, make sure to visit Europa Point, great views of the Straights, lighthouse, Moroccan mezquita, great pictures to be taken to post here. Should you require any further advise etc please do not hesitate in contacting me kind regards Eric
