we will be in rome on friday sept.21st and sat.22nd and would are thinking we will do a vatican city tour/sisten chapel on saturday morning. so we need to book now??? or can we just show up in line on saturday?
also....is a tour really neccessary? |

The Vatican Museum and Sistine Chapel can be toured on your own without prior booking arrangements. Just go there and pay the admission then you may opt to rent an electronic audio guide (with selected languages) to help you along. Same with the Basilica - admission is free but no audio guide is available/necessary.

I agree. There is no need to book it in advance (I'm not even sure if you can) but be prepared to stand in a long line for the Sistine Chapel and the Basilica. Arrive as early as you can to avoid the heat. As for a tour, just get the audio guide for the Sistine Chapel.
