Zhuhai Weekends @ Zhuhai
Posted: Mon August 27, 2007 07:56 PM UTC
Hi guys/gals,

I'll be in Shenzhen for a business trip and thinking about spending one weekends in Zhuhai I heard there are frequent buses/ferry from Shenzhen to Zhuhai. I'll be staying in Futian district in shenzhen & Gongbei District in Zhuhai. Should i go by land or sea? By land, i'll probably skip the bus and take a taxi. Any idea how long each option will take, from door to door? Thanks!

Also, where is the famous lotus street and how "safe" is it? I'll be travelling alone. It is a no no for tourist to venture out alone at lotus street, especially after dark? I am aware of pickpockets. I'm not looking specifically to buy something, just window shopping, grap some food, etc.

Many thanks in advance.

Allow 40-45 minute from Futian to She Kou gang (the ferry port in Shenzhen). ferries leave every half hour from 7:30 to 5:00 then 5:45, 6:30, 7:30,8:30 and 9:30.
ferry takes 1hour and 10 mins to Jiu Zhou gang (Zhuhai ferry port).
Cost will be 60 +80=RMB140. Taxi would cost conceiveably 1000 (there are toll roads involved and often delays on the expressway. My advice is take boat.
GongBei is relatively safe except for pick pockets and yes you can go out at night to bar street (Shui Wan Lu) Lotus street is the walking street in Gongbei.
Where are you staying in Gongbei - you can ask the concierges they will help you OK. Taxis in Zhuhai cost RMB10.00 for first 3K so you will rarely pay more than 10. dont expect a lot of people to speak English but enough do especially on Bar street.
Also have a look at www.zhuhai.expat9.com for specific local info.
