I am hoping to come and set up camp in Beirut for a month or so in the next two weeks and am hoping to rent a room in a shared flat/house. Ideally,I'd live in a decent area with other young professional, like-minded folk (Lebanese of foreign) but have no idea where to start looking - any tips re: websites or contact for rooms to rent? Ta!

Hi! Lucky you I'd kill to be in Beirut! It's a great place to be, if you wanna be around the younger crowd Hamra is great. Both AUB and LAU are nearby so it's brimming with students as well as young professionals. It's my favorite area in Beirut as it's always lively. As for contacts, you could try www.dailystar.com.lb and look in the classified section for rooms etc. Good luck!

Why don't you try Embassy Hotel. It's a very nice family run property, in the centre of Hamra district, 3 minutes walk from American university hospital, banks, cafés, restaurants, supermarkets, wine stores , etc........ Their rooms are very decent-sized, CLEAN, with A/C , fridge, bathroom and as far as the prices are concerned , the rates are very REASONABLE.
