Will be in Tampa end of Sept. Looking for a beach nearby that might have some fairly good size waves, not for surfing but for swimming.

The Gulf action in late Sept. is based on current weather conditions (storms in the area, etc) but is generally fairly smooth based on my time in area.
Certainly if you are looking for body-surfing waves you may be disappointed unless there is a good onshore wind blowing. This website has some great kiteboarding information for the area and if you check where kiteboarders are going, you will get the best waves more than likely. http://www.kitemare.com/Tampa%20St.Pete%20Kiteboarding.htm Have fun, be safe!
