Seychelles a week in the seychelles
Posted: Sun August 26, 2007 09:12 PM UTC
going next february/march.Is this a busy time?weatherwise is it a good time?Thinking of 1 day in mahe transfer to praslin for 3 days and the rest in la digue.alternatively can you get to la digue via praslin from mahe in one day?I think I would rather spend more time in la digue. We are doing this week after an african safari.given it is 1000 miles off the coast should we spend more than a week there. It has always been one of my wife,s dreams to do a safari/seychelles trip so it is the holiday of a lifetime for us and I am willing to stretch the budget.thans for any help.

Your timing is high season in Sychelles bit in other Safari destinations in Africa it is o.k. May -July would be good for Sychells and East Africa which is home to the safaris good to visit between April - June and 10th Nov-early Dec. Your wife's idea of a safari/Sychelles trip is quite creative and should be memorable if you get a goot tour operator to create a suitable plan and customize the tour to your expectations.

Choose a multi-country safari especially in east africa which has an array of safari activities.

If you want me to recommend an operator handling such trips in Africa with on the ground presence in these destinations I will upon request.

Wish you a unforgettable trip.

I know several that can be of good service (value for money) but will recommend if you ask.

I was in the Seychelles in 1994. I took the boat from Mahe to Praslin and I believe that the boat continued on with other passengers on to La Digue. You should be able to go all the way to Mahe from La Digue in reverse too. But, to be sure, you can inquire at the tourist office in Victoria or simply go to the port (Victoria isn't large and everything is in walking distance). It was quite beautifully scenic and quiet (I was there in April/May). Check out Chez Marston's guest house on La Digue. If he is still there, it might be interesting to book a dinner one evening there. He is Seychellois and likes to eat with his guests at the dinner table. A very friendly, ecclectic man. He had a painted statue of a man with a mask over his face on his porch and I thought it was somebody real! Hope he's still there.

My husband and I spent two weeks in the Seychelles in February this year and it was worth every cent! I was really worried about the weather as February tends to fall in the rainy season; however, the weather was quite good for us. I think it's worth stretching your budget as far as you can to spend as much time as you can on the islands. I would highly recommend more than a week. We took a cruise via catamaran for 10 nights with hotels on both ends of the cruise. The catamaran provided an amazing way to see many of the islands and getting to know some of the locals. If you prefer the land route, I think 1-2 days on La Digue should be sufficient -- there isn't a lot to see and you can tour the whole island in a day via bicycle. I believe you can transit between La Digue, Praslin and Mahe easily in one day. Cat Cocos is the catamaran/ferry service that takes you between the islands. Search online for more information about fares and schedules. You can also fly between the islands via Air Seychelles. From what I recall, the airfares aren't much more than the ferry although there are luggage weight limits.
